Chiggers, ticks, and the ubiquitous mosquito....

Since Farrah and I didn't catch anything today, I thought I'd point out some of the local wildlife that we encounter this time of year.

I ate a leisurely breakfast, put Cisco out, walked and fed the dog, and geared up for some hunting with Farrah out west of Katy. On the way, I fed my sister's cat Paco. When I got to my hunting area, I decided to look at some of my old spots, now largely developed. The Tweener field is awful. I may never go back there. But south of the Pavestone field may be OK later this season. Too grassy now. There's a field across the highway, many hundreds of acres, that used to be stellar; now it's called Jordan Ranch. Yuck.

There is some grassland left around there that looks promising for Farrah's quarry. That's where we went today. The grass is too high now, but Farrah had some chases in the heat. On the way back we flushed a Great White Heron which my knuckleheaded Harris's Hawk chased. Fortunately Farrah broke off the pursuit. From handling the much smaller bittern the other day, I have respect, bordering on fear, of herons.

I fed Farrah up on a DOC, and some leftover squirrel, and called it good.
